SANTA PAULA CANYON CLEANUP, SEP 19Hi Friends — we’re in search of VOLUNTEERS for a Santa Paula Canyon Cleanup on Saturday, September 19th! It’s been a downright overwhelming season out there this year, and we ~think~ it’s starting to wind down….LPFA is partnering with santapaulacanyon to clean up and cover graffiti between the trailhead and the Punchbowl. We could really use some help with this one and would love to see huge turnout for this canyon we all love and enjoy. Summer’s wrapping up and a potentially wet winter is on the way. We had some below average temps across the forest last week. Fog hung on to the coast most of the day and backcountry locales that are usually pushing triple digits in August hung around 80 degrees. LPFA took the opportunity to survey and prepare for some upcoming trail projects this fall. It’s not too often you get a cool coastal breeze in the LP backcountry in August! THRU-HIKING THE CONDOR TRAIL, 8/15 - 12PMLPFA’s Wheeler Gorge Summer Interpretive Programs wrap up this Saturday, August 15th with a presentation by Addison Jerlow on his 2025 thru-hike of the Condor Trail! The talk begins at 12pm inside the center and donations are welcome.Join us for a family-friendly presentation on the 420-mile Condor Trail that traverses the Los Padres Forest from Lake Piru to Monterey. Addison will be sharing photos and stories from his FKT-setting thru-hike of the trail, as well as sharing tips and answering questions for those interested in planning their own hike on the Condor Trail. A ZONE GENERAL HUNTING OPENING WEEKENDSaturday, August 8 (TOMORROW) is the opening day for A Zone South General Deer Season, the most popular hunting season here in the Los Padres. This Zone covers just about all of the Los Padres, from Monterey down through Ventura County. The only section not included is D13 which covers Ventura County north and east of Sespe Creek and southern Kern County (see maps above).Weekends during the season, and especially opening and closing weekend, will be BUSY in the A Zone region of the Los Padres. Visitors should expect to see hunters camping at most trailheads, pullouts and campgrounds that provide access to the area. If you’re not a hunter and looking for some time in the forest from Aug 8 - Sep 20, consider heading to D13, which includes trails in the Chumash Wilderness, northern Sespe Wilderness, and the Grade Valley area.
