NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAYLast Saturday, September 28th was National Public Lands Day. To celebrate, LPFA led THREE projects across the Forest. Many thanks to those who joined us!First up, LPFA joined the @cityofsb to lead over 50 volunteers on several trail maintenance projects in Rattlesnake Canyon. The same day, LPFA led 11 volunteers in partnership with @rei and the Mount Pinos Ranger District to maintain 1.1 miles of Potrero John Trail in the Sespe Wilderness. And on Sunday, LPFA partnered with the Ojai Ranger District to remove downed trees from the Matilija Canyon Trail. What a great weekend to celebrate the Los Padres!And the party’s not over yet. We have an event on Saturday, October 12th to clean up Santa Paula Canyon, a trip to the Schoolhouse October 18-21, and our annual Used Gear Sale on October 13th to benefit our Trail Care Fund, a great way to support our trail work across the Forest. -LAKE FIRE TEMPORARY CLOSUREIn response to the unseasonably early storm activity this week, the Forest Service will be proactively closing roads in and adjacent to the Lake Fire. This is due to the risk of flash flooding and potential for debris flow. The roads closed include the following:- Figueroa Mountain Road- East Pinery Road- Catway / Zaca Peak / Zaca Ridge Roads- Sunset ValleyThe Forest Service is expecting that the roads will be reopened next week, assuming no damage occurs. MANZANA SCHOOLHOUSE VOLUNTEER WEEKENDCome join LPFA for a long weekend at the Manzana Schoolhouse from October 3 - 6!!!Last time we were at the Schoolhouse, we put on a new roof. This time we’ll be putting in some great trail work on the Hurricane Deck, Sisquoc River and Manzana Trails. LPFA IS HIRING!LPFA is looking for applicants for both our professional Trail Crew and an Information Specialist position!Our professional Trail Crew works year-round on both day projects and overnight hitches, mostly in Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties. It’s hard, physical, and rewarding work that will provide ample time outdoors in the Los Padres.The Information Specialist is a new position based at the Santa Barbara District Office to assist visitors with questions they may have about the forest. At the same time this position will have flexibility to help with a variety of ongoing LPFA projects.
