SANTA PAULA CANYON CLEANUP, JULY 5THThe LPFA is partnering with @santapaulacanyon to clean up graffiti and trash in Santa Paula Canyon! We are hoping to raise $1000 to offset the costs of trash cans, paint and clean up supplies (paint sprayers, batteries, bags, grabbers, gloves etc). Please consider donating to the cause! Support link in bio. With the heat in full swing, we’ve seen the typical uptick in visitation and unfortunately, graffiti and trash in the canyon. Luckily, we’ve been able to partner with local Santa Paula Canyon Crew to sweep the canyon every week or so, as well as place trash cans at the trailhead, which has made a HUGE difference in and around the trailhead. Help us keep the clean ups coming by donating to the SPC Cleanup Fund in our bio. These funds will provide materials and help maintain a positive presence in this gem of an LP canyon.P.S. join us for a cleanup on July 5th! PIEDRA BLANCA TO PMLLPFA wrapped up a volunteer-led overnight trail maintenance project on the Piedra Blanca Trail earlier this month and boy is it looking GOOD out there! This marked the 6th LPFA project on this trail in the past two years and we are happy to say the trail is now in great shape from Piedra Blanca Trailhead to Pine Mountain Lodge Camp. Thank you to the incredible volunteers and donors who made these projects possible!Check in on HikeLosPadres.com for water reports, keep an eye out for cooler weather windows and go check out the trail for yourself! P.S. These projects were almost entirely funded by individual donations. Please consider donating as we continue to navigate the ongoing restrictions on federal funding. Every dollar helps!#lpfa_trailvolunteers #trailstewardship #volunteerslivelonger #sespewilderness #venturabackcountry #lospadresnationalforest #WildernessStewardship ... See MoreSee Less

LPFA x NATIONAL TRAILS DAYNational Trails Day is June 7th this year, and LPFA is spending it on the Piedra Blanca Trail to celebrate! This day is about getting outside, connecting with the Los Padres community, and giving back to the trails. This is a guaranteed way to meet great people doing great things for the Los Padres. We will be leading a 3 day backcountry trail maintenance project June 6 – 8 to finish brushing the final quarter mile of trail before Pine Mountain Lodge Camp. Come out and help us brush this trail, enjoy some epic views of the Sespe Wilderness, and take advantage of the cooler temps at higher elevations this time of year.Sign up or get more information at the Volunteer Events link in our bio or visit lpforest.org!Photos from our previous two outings on Piedra Blanca Trail this year….#lospadresnationalforest #sespewilderness #backcountry #venturacounty #venturabackcountry #ojaibackcountry #volunteerslivelonger #trailstewardship #WildernessStewardship #lpfa_trailvolunteers ... Recreational Realignment of Public LandsThe administration signed a new Order to launch a nationwide program designed to monetize public lands through an expansion of recreational opportunities. This program is called Recreational Realignment of Public Lands (RRPL). While the concept of more recreational opportunities within our public lands is certainly positive, the fineprint within the RRPL program has raised criticism from multiple national watchdog organizations. CLICK HERE to read a complete list of the proposed recreational realignment projects. Here locally, there are two proposed RRPL sites within the Los Padres.RRPL is proposing an expansion of recreation in Ventura County by creating a year-round Golf and Ski destination set within the rugged Sespe Backcountry. ‘Halfmoon Pines’ will be a 4-season resort featuring two 18-hole golf courses, two ski mountains (Thorn Point & Little Mutau), a 25k square foot clubhouse/ski lodge located at Mutau Flat, 518 carbon-neutral villas and a natural hot spring spa resort at Sespe Hot Springs accessed by gondola leading down Johnston Ridge. In Monterey, RRPL will be expanding recreation by building a one-of-a-kind wild animal experience called the ‘Carrizo Springs Adventure Park’. The park will be the largest in existence covering half of the Monterey Ranger District. The headquarters will be centrally located at The Indians with seven gondolas providing access to an array of ecotourism offerings including zip-lines, shark diving and programs like: Plaskett Creek Primates, Tassajara Tiger Sanctuary, Pine Valley Pachyderm Pasture, Pfeiffer Polar Bear Plunge, the aptly named Lion’s Den and the sure to be crowd favorite Crocs of the Arroyo Seco. What’s truly special about Carrizo Springs Park is that there will be no fences. All animals will be free to wander as nature intended across the vast Los Padres Backcountry. While the RRPL program will certainly change portions of the Los Padres, it should accomplish its goal of expanding recreation. For us diehards who love the backcountry, don’t worry, we’ve been assured that all backcountry trails will remain open for those with a valid Adventure Pass.#slooflirpa ... See MoreSee Less
